The Greatest Modern Actors

Marlin Brando once said "To grasp the full significance of life is the actor's duty, to interpret it is his problem, and to express it his dedication."  Just a short generation later, Jim Carrey would observe "Until Ace Ventura, no actor had considered talking through his ass."  Yes, there is no recipe for what makes great acting and no surefire way to distinguish it from the talking asses of the world, perhaps in no small part because when it's at it's best, it doesn't seem like acting at all.  Ranking artistry is never easy, if not downright impossible.  It's undeniably subjective, contentious, and almost sure to offend.  Of course, that's never stopped us before.

Rankings were made taking into account overall ability and range, strength of the roles taken, longevity, influence, and awards won.  Listed alongside are each actor's best works, also loosely ranked according to how each exemplifies their talents.
Actors must have appeared in at least one 21st century feature film for consideration as "modern."

I refuse to pigeonhole Willis as just an action star--sure he made his name in Die Hard, but the guy was in some of the best movies of the 90s. Pulp Fiction, Sixth Sense, and 12 Monkeys are not action flicks. Not saying he's going to be playing King Lear any time soon, but give the guy a little credit.
I'm not the biggest Beatty fan either but you can't argue with 4 best actor nods (and 7 golden globe nods).
I'll give you Martin Sheen. My original thinking was that his movie career had kind of concluded now that he's in his seventies, but forgot about his role in the departed and upcoming spiderman reboot.

Ben, I think Denzel deserves to have Man on Fire as one of his bests. Do you think Forrest Whitaker had a significant role in Panic Room? I might differ on that.

Not sure where to start on this list. But lets try christian bale. Are you serious? You have him at number 30, I wouldn't even have him in the top 75.

so I came back to the dose today and read this list again. I completely forgot that I already saw it. I saw the person on the list who sucks monkey balls and was gonna comment on it. Got to the comment section only to find out that I already complained about STUPID CHRISTIAN BAIL. This guy has zero talent. By far the worst Batman. Val and George were better than this guy. Why on Earth does he talk in the Batman voice to PEOPLE WHO KNOW HE IS BATMAN?

What the movies again.( if can stomach them) He talks in a Batman voice to people who knows that he is Bruce Wayne. It's insulting.

Oh yeah, do I dare mention Terminator Salvation? This guy is a joke.

Are you total idiot who only watches films of the last few years. Val Kilmer and George Clooney better Batmans,...gimme a break. They are the reasons why Batman became a joke. Maybe you'd love Shia Lebeouf as Wolverine...you fool. Christian Bale is not just Batman, ever seen The Machinist, 3:10 to Yuma and brilliant in American Psycho. I won't waste my time insulting you just in case you get upset...twat!
